The app
Unofficial Gaelic Companion is developed by Dale Myers. It is a free, independent listening companion. The app collects no data for the developer: it has no accounts, advertisements, analytics, tracking, or third-party crash-reporting service. It does not send your recordings, listening progress, or preferences to the developer.
Information on your device
When you select a ZIP in the system file picker, the app reads its audio files and title metadata and copies supported recordings into its private storage. Listening progress and preferences are stored separately on your device. ZIPFoundation processes archives locally; it does not upload them.
The app has no cloud-sync feature. Imported audio is excluded from the app's device backup. Preferences and listening progress may be included in backups managed by your operating system. A source ZIP you keep in iCloud Drive or another file provider remains subject to that provider's settings and policies.
During playback, the app supplies the current recording's title, duration, and playback position to iOS so it can display system media and lock-screen controls.
Retention and deletion
Imported recordings remain until you replace the library successfully or delete the app. Replacing a library preserves listening progress. You can clear listening progress using “Reset all listening progress” in “About & download”. Deleting the app, rather than offloading it, removes its local data; it does not delete your original ZIP or recordings in Files. Manage any device backups and source files separately through their respective services.
External websites
The app opens the publisher's download page, the support site, and the online privacy policy only when you choose those links. Those websites receive normal web requests and handle them under their own privacy policies. Downloading the publisher's ZIP is a separate action outside the app.
This website
The app's no-collection statement does not mean that visiting this website is anonymous. This site is hosted on an Azure virtual server. Its nginx web server keeps standard access and error logs, which may include your IP address, request time, requested URL, response status, referring page, and browser information. These logs support operating and troubleshooting the website. Logs are configured to rotate daily, retaining 14 rotated log files.
These Gaelic Companion pages do not set cookies or use analytics, advertising, or third-party tracking scripts. Images and page resources are served by this site. A small script reads your browser's light/dark preference, or a theme query parameter, to choose the page appearance; it does not store or send that preference.
Support correspondence
If you email gaeliccompanion@myers.io, your email address, message, and any details you choose to send are processed through the developer's email provider to respond to and investigate your request. This is separate from data handled locally by the app. You can email the same address to request deletion of support correspondence.
Please do not send book recordings, personal audio libraries, or sensitive personal information. If you include a screenshot, check it for private information first.
Changes to this policy
If the app's data practices change, this policy and the App Store privacy disclosures will be updated before those changes are released.
